The area around the Sumida River behind the temple is quieter and worth exploring. The rickshaw drivers near Kaminarimon offer short tours of the area — a good option after a long day on the course.

Nagi built its reputation on niboshi ramen — a broth made from dried sardines that produces an intense, almost dashi-like depth of flavour. It is unusual and very Japanese. The Shinjuku area has several branches; the one inside the Golden Gai district (4-1-11 Shinjuku) is the original and smallest, and the queue there is part of the atmosphere. The Kabukicho branch is larger and easier to find. Customisation options include egg, extra pork, and spice level. Most staff speak limited English but ordering by pointing works perfectly.
