Outer Island Golf
Okinawa's outer islands — Miyako-jima and Ishigaki-jima — offer a more remote, more spectacular version of Okinawa golf. Miyako-jima has several courses set among sugarcane fields with views across coral reefs; Ishigaki-jima's courses sit in a more mountainous tropical landscape with the Yaeyama Islands as a backdrop. Both islands are served by flights from Okinawa Main Island (approximately 50 minutes). Multi-island golf itineraries combining Main Island, Miyako, and Ishigaki are possible with careful planning.

Okinawa Main Island
The largest island with the highest concentration of courses. Naha city has full hotel infrastructure. Best for first-time Okinawa visitors and those combining golf with Shuri Castle and local Ryukyuan culture.
Miyako-jima
Japan's clearest water, flat landscape, and a relaxed pace of life. Golf courses set among sugarcane fields. Excellent for experienced Japan travellers looking for something genuinely off the tourist circuit.
Ishigaki-jima
The most visually dramatic of the outer islands — subtropical mountains, coral reefs, and the gateway to the protected Iriomote wilderness. More mountainous golf character than Miyako, spectacular scenery.
The Okinawa Golf Lunch

Getting to Okinawa
Naha Airport on Okinawa Main Island is the gateway. Domestic connections from Tokyo take 2.5 hours.
From Tokyo
Flights from Tokyo Haneda to Naha Airport take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes on JAL or ANA. Flights run multiple times daily. Advance-booked fares from approximately ¥12,000 one way. The flight itself crosses the entire southern extent of Japan — a good window seat shows the Kyushu coastline and then open ocean.
From Osaka / Kansai
Flights from Osaka Itami or Kansai International to Naha take approximately 1 hour 50 minutes. Useful for golf trips that combine Kansai cultural sightseeing with an Okinawa extension.
To Outer Islands
Ryukyu Air Commuter and ANA Wings operate frequent flights from Naha to Miyako-jima (50 min) and Ishigaki-jima (55 min). Same-day connections are possible on morning Tokyo flights arriving Naha by 12:00.
Best Season
November through May offers the finest weather: warm, dry, and clear. June to September is the rainy season and typhoon season — golf is possible but weather is unpredictable. December and January are Okinawa's "winter" — still 20°C+ and comfortable for golf when the rest of Japan is cold.
